Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I take childbirth classes?

There is so much to learn about pregnancy, labor & birth, your new baby, and postpartum. When you become well-informed, empowered, and confident, research shows you will have reduced fear going into your labor. You are more likely to have a positive experience. Understanding terminology, knowing what your body is doing, and what to expect throughout the process can ease anxiety. Learning and practicing relaxation techniques and other hands-on exercises in class can help you and your partner grow closer.

When should I take childbirth classes?

You can begin to take classes as early as you'd like. However, most take classes between 24-36 weeks.

Will my insurance cover your classes?

Some insurance companies will reimburse for childbirth education services. Contact your insurance company and inquire if they will cover private childbirth education classes. Be sure to ask what proof they will need to reimburse. I will be happy to provide that proof after course completion.

Are your classes for "natural childbirth" only?

No. I believe every expectant parent should have a variety of knowledge on all available options for pain management. This way you can make an informed decision that's best for you. Often you will use not just one method, but rather a combination of them all.  I believe it's essential to not only understand the natural ways to cope, but also explore medical support such as epidurals and other pain relief options.

Should my support person/doula or partner attend class?

Yes. I encourage support partners to be involved every step of the way. Each course will discuss specific partner tips intended just for them. They will be able to supply the essential tools for labor support and newborn care and will benefit from all the information presented. A support partner can be anyone- a spouse, significant other, parent, sibling, family member, friend, or doula. Having the continuous presence of a support person throughout labor is proven to have a positive impact on labor.

What is your refund policy?
